Dear SABS High School students and teachers,
As we gather here today, we come together in celebration of our students’ achievements after a busy and memorable semester. It is evident that we are a great learning community that creates many opportunities for student success. In the next a few minutes, please allow me to share some highlights of our school calendar that I believe demonstrate the diversity and talent that our students have and the many ways how you seize opportunities of well-rounded growth.
Firstly, in the aspect of aesthetic development, we saw many Arts Exhibitions in the Art Space on the third floor, during which students of all grades had opportunities to demonstrate their growth in Arts. The recent HS Music Festival surprised everyone of this school in a nice way, because of those G12 graduates’ talent and breathtaking performances. The annual Drama Festival was a time of creativity, passion, and collaboration. The participants really enjoyed the chance to create, produce, and perform in the theatrical production that showcased their artistic abilities.
Secondly, the House System continued to provide our students with a lot of opportunities of learning in the social context. Daily could you earn House Points for your Houses owing to your admired achievements or satisfying behaviours. An exciting event was the annual House Night, a night of celebrating House culture in the high school and demonstrates the collaboration and leadership of those House Captains. The House Knowledge Bowl and the Open Discussion about Houses aimed at bettering the House system, both gave us the chance to work as a community, support one another, enjoy the culture, and improve the learning environment as a whole.
Thirdly, in the area of academic learning, this semester was indeed full of challenges and opportunities including tests and exams. Actually, the students in the international high school had to face many exams both at a global, national, and school level, such as the IB, A-level, ACT, SSAT,中考, as well as the just finished final examination with the school. While these exams could be a source of stress and anxiety, they also allowed our students to prove your academic excellence and prepare you for the future. I can imagine how happy and relaxed you would be when you receive an excellent grade of any of these exams in the summer.
Our students not only attested their academic achievements through the exams organized by the school, they also sought to participate in academic contests and competitions outside the school to showcase their talents and courageous pursuits. In this semester, there were as many as 50 students who won awards and medals in various contests in fields such as Music, Chemistry, Biology, Business Management, Economics, and Mathematics. Especially, the school organized the first Arete Business Competition within the high school to offer more learning opportunities for our own students.
At this moment, please allow me to say my heartfelt gratitude to all the teachers and students who planned, prepared, organized, and participated in all these wonderful learning opportunities. It was you who made the school so lively, lovely, and uplifting.
In retrospect, you can see our school calendar is packed with diverse and exciting events that allow us to explore our passions, showcase our talents, and develop as individuals and a learning community. It is impossible for me to highlight all of them in a few minutes. While I was mentioning the events just now, probably you also recalled other excitements, for instance, the inspiring G12 Graduation, the interesting Co-Curriculum Exhibition, the challenging DoE Outdoor Adventure, as well as other engaging days including HS Sports Day, Science Week, and the most recent Global Issue Week. I believe these days will not just fade as memories in your mind but will transform to be sticky knowledge, skills, and happiness for your life. What you did were forever gone, but what you learned will stay and what you internalized will support you to grow to become a better and better self in the future.
Learn for better self, Think for better life.
Thank you for the listening! Wish you all a happy summer vacation!
