Good morning HS students and teachers,
So happy to meet you again at this HS school virtual assembly on this Monday morning! The video that you just watched showed one interesting activity that our Grade 10 students and teachers did together when we are separated.
The sudden outbreak of COVID in Shanghai interrupted our normal school life. Many parts of the city are still on the Pause mode. Many students and teachers underwent nucleic tests a few times in the last two weeks. The online teaching and learning is complicated by all these inconveniences. However, we all cope with these difficulties and still try our best to work, learn, and keep happy and healthy.
What each of you is doing is part of the battle with the pandemic, although it is incomparable to the incredible efforts made by those extremely hardworking volunteers, doctors, nurses, and public health officials who combat in the front. Each of us should take a moment to appreciate what they do for us, for the city, and for the country. We wish them all safe. And wish we can return normal lives sooner.
Although we are temporarily separated by the virus, we try our best to be connected and to live together as a community of caring. We work together, learn together, make funs together, and have physical exercises together. The photos that you see now on the screen show a few interesting things we teachers and students do together. I believe there are more to share in different groups of the high school. Please do share your positive strategies and experiences on a variety of platforms such as Wechat moment, TikTok, etc. Every of us will love to hear or see these positive stories.
In the last two weeks, we had a good start with online teaching and learning, owing to a lot of careful preparations by all teachers and the cooperation by all students. We saw many good online lessons, engaging activities, effective participations of and neat homework submissions of students. We also saw a variety of teaching methods and tools are used to improve the quality of online lessons. I hope all teachers and students will continue this fashion in the following weeks.
To gather our students’ feedback on online learning, we sent a survey to all students last Friday. If you haven’t filled out the survey, please do it as soon as possible. On the screen, you can see the link and QR code of the survey for the quality of online teaching. The survey will be closed by this Wednesday.
We don’t know how long the online school will last yet. You see the number of COVID infection is still climbing. Let us treat all online classes, exams, and other activities seriously so little loss of learning would occur during this special period of time. For students, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to relevant teachers or staff members. We are here to help students learn and support teachers teach.
Below is the information that you should know. At the beginning of the online teaching, the high school created a task force to support and monitor the online teaching and learning.

A new month is approaching towards us. Please allow me take a few minutes to introduce the theme of April 2022. Under the current frustrating circumstance of COVID, I propose to use Resilient and Self-management Skills as the theme.
Resilient 坚忍不拔
You adapt well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress, such as study, health or relationship problems.
面对逆境、创伤、悲剧、威胁或重要的压力来源,如学习、健康或人际关系问题,你能很好地适应。
You will not only make it through the challenges and difficulties but also emerge to become a more confident and courageous self.
你不仅会度过挑战和困难,而且会变得更加自信和勇敢。
Self-management skills 自我管理技能
You demonstrate organization skills such as managing time, tasks, learning materials effectively;
你展示组织技能,例如有效地管理时间、任务、学习材料;
You are able to manage state of mind including but not limited to mindfulness awareness, perseverance, emotional management, self-motivation, resilience.
你能够管理自己的心理状态,包括但不限于正念意识、毅力、情绪管理、自我激励、复原力。
Not all of us were born with these attributes and skills. We all learn from our experiences. The school education is a very important part of these experiences. You learn resilience when you have to face and go through difficulties and stresses in your life, for example, the upcoming online exam week. You learn management skills when you have to deal with pressing deadlines and multiple tasks, for example, a few review exam papers you have to finish today. Do not hesitate, stay positive and keep working; do not give up when you are failing, just give yourself one more chance and then you will exceed your limit. I think this is the only way for you to learn to be resilient. Of course, when you feel needing support, always please think of your school and your teachers. We are all here for you! All the best wishes!
